False Data - How to Recognize it!

"If it creates trouble for you, it is almost always false data!"

Me, teaching an older student.
Yesterday I spoke with a prospective student who provided me with a wonderful example of "false data." He didn't have an instrument yet although he had been shopping. He did say that there were many options.  This is true and reflects what you might call "true data." True data almost always feels better and is helpful. There are many, many items available modernly.

As an aside, that didn't used to be the case. However, when it was not (before the advent of electronic keyboards) acoustic instruments were much, much cheaper. Nowadays, we have many options which substitute for the expensive (new ones are VERY expensive) acoustic piano.

The rule seems to be what I stated above. Note the word "almost" added to this. I added that because lately, lazy bones type proliferate. It is false that you can get "something for nothing." You can NOT learn to play by buying the right piece of equipment, watching the right video, etc. Sorry, but it will take some work to learn to play.

That's why you should be very selective of your teacher/instructor/coach AND your chosen instrument. No need to add effort, time, and money to what is already something that will take some effort, time, and money to achieve. I also recommend that you don't buy any false data. I will be writing a batch more of these essays in the coming weeks, outlining those things I have discovered are false.

Since I've been teaching ordinary folks for 25+ years and performing 40+ years, I have seen a lot of BS that really should be avoided. I suggest you read my essays so you can spot this FALSE DATA when some "expert" swears it is true. Or, you could be brave and just ask me in an email to danstarrorg@yahoo.com.
