My source for all these items is the book covering the 300th anniversary of the piano
1. The first pianos did NOT have 88 keys.
2. Nor did they have pedals.
3. They were weighted but only lightly.
I recommend (for increasing your knowledge of pianos) that you read the same book from which I got this info - it's actually called Piano 300 and I'll whet you whistle with a fourth fact:
4. Some pianos had more than three pedals.
